Hello! Now that Labor Day has come and gone, kids are back in school and we’ve mostly said goodbye to summer (even though it’s not officially over for a couple more weeks) so we’re back with the Weekend Roundup, your guide to family activities that will help you learn about the world right here in Pittsburgh.

Through events this weekend, your family can explore Scotland, China, Ireland, Britain, Ukraine and more. Bonus events into the upcoming week include library storytimes in Japanese and Chinese.

Enjoy the weekend in Pittsburgh!

Let’s Learn Chinese at the Carnegie Library in Oakland - tonight! September 10

Experience Chinese language and culture through books, storytelling, songs, games and more!

Spanish/English Storytime at the Woods Run location of the Carnegie Library - tonight! September 10

Britsburgh – September 8-14

This new festival celebrates British-American connections in Pittsburgh with a whole week of events that include British cheese and pastry tastings, selfies with a life-sized Queen Elizabeth II, high tea and more. I’m told that the A Very British Day Out event on Sunday, September 13 is going to be very family-friendly with British food, drink, vintage cars, cricket matches, music and a Queen Elizabeth II look-alike contest.

22nd Annual Edinboro Highland Games – September 10-13

Explore Scottish traditions including world-class musicians, fiddle and harp competitions, Highland dance and athletic competitions, pipe band and solo competitions, clan gatherings, kids’ crafts and games, and traditional Scottish food.

25th Annual Pittsburgh Irish Festival - September 11-13

Explore Irish traditions at the largest Irish festival in Pennsylvania. Check out the listing of activities to look forward to this year, including a big children’s tent, an Irish dog area, an Irish doll display, food, dancing, music and more.

Strip District World Music Festival - September 11-13

This festival’s goal is to celebrate the various cultures of Pittsburgh with a mix of music, dance, food and vendors.

4th Annual Ukrainian Food Festival at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church – September 11-12

Lots of traditional foods including pyrohy, holupsti, kielbasa and pastries, too. Plus entertainment and craft fair.

Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival - September 12-13

Jump back in time to 16th century England at this festival that features vendors, food, music, jousting and various entertainment and games. Tip: make sure to bring cash if you go since most food and game vendors don’t take credit cards.

Bhangra Dance Lessons with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust - September 12
